How did we become Pintail?

Simple. Three real estate professionals with a common passion for excellence, saw an opportunity and seized it.  As the robust Upstate economy continued to strengthen following the recession of 2008, the founding partners felt strongly that there was an expanding space for our company within the Upstate commercial real estate landscape.  With combined sales, development and leasing transactions of over $454 million, our team brings unparalleled depth and expertise to each and every client interaction.  

Our company name has its roots in the characteristics of the Pintail duck, which is elegant in its design, graceful in flight.  Sleek and aerodynamic, the Pintail has a speed and agility which has earned the species the nickname, “greyhound of the air.”  The mystique and panache of the Pintail is without question, and it is widely recognized as the most sought after species throughout the Americas.  Pintail Capital Partners brings a similar focus to the markets we serve through proactive service, accessibility and responsiveness to our clients’ needs.

The Pintail Team

Ross Kester

Ross Kester co leads the firm’s strategy, operations, transaction management and project execution. Ross is primarily focused on deal structuring, underwriting of development opportunities, transaction oversight, investment sales and risk analysis.

Prior to Pintail Capital Partners, Ross Began his real estate career in 2004 as a sales executive with the Cliffs Communities where Ross was directly responsible for over $100 million in real estate transactions as a top producer. In 2011 Ross was asked to take over as Broker-In-Charge for the Cliffs at Keowee Region, overseeing sales and marketing for three master-planned lake front communities on Lake Keowee. The global economy continued to strengthen and in early 2014, Ross saw the opportunity return to Greenville and join NAI Earle Furman’s Healthcare and Investment Services divisions. A perennial member of the firm’s Capital Club, Ross generated development, sales and leasing activity of more than $52 million dollars in his first two years with the company.

A native of Greenville, South Carolina, Ross holds a degree in accounting and business management from Washington and Lee University; where he was a four-year letterman on the football team and Vice President of his fraternity. In addition to spending time with his wife and two daughters, Ross is an avid outdoorsman and sports enthusiast. An Eagle Scout at age 13, Ross also enjoys his contribution as a youth mentor with SC Department of Natural Resources “Take One Make One” program. Ross is a board member and treasurer of the Foothills Chapter of QDMA, and is the defensive line coach for the Greenville High youth football team.

Tyson Smoak

Tyson Smoak co-leads the firm’s client engagements, leasing and sales brokerage initiatives, fund raising activities and brand awareness. Responsible for all business development and marketing as well as new opportunity origination.

Prior to Pintail Capital Partners, Tyson spent eight years at NAI Earle Furman where he was a broker. He completed over $60 million dollars of commercial real estate transactions over the last three years working predominantly in the office sector and has developed a specialty in tenant representation. He has a comprehensive understanding of office sales, leasing and build-to-suit-development, and is licensed in South Carolina and North Carolina.

Tyson earned his CCIM (Certified Commercial Investment Member) designation and was named the Greater Greenville Association of Realtors 2013 Commercial Realtor of the Year. He is the former Chair of the Board of Directors of Loaves and Fishes and is a past board member of the Greater Greenville Association of Realtors.

Stuart Wyeth

Stuart Wyeth co-leads the growth and strategy of the firm. Stuart brings his creative energies to strategic planning, development programming, government approvals, impact evaluation and thought leadership around the firm’s development activities.

Prior to Pintail Capital Partners, Stuart spent more than ten years at NAI Earle Furman where he was a broker and principal. He completed over $156 million dollars of commercial real estate transactions in the major industry classifications including office, retail and industrial. Stuart worked with large institutional investors, owners and developers; including Och-Ziff Real Estate and The Blackstone Group. Additionally, he completed lease transactions with Verizon, IBM, UPS, General Electric and many other national, regional and local tenants. Stuart was consistently a top-performing broker at his former company.

Stuart began his career in commercial real estate in 2005 as an intern during his final academic year at Clemson University. While at Clemson, he completed a Master’s degree in City and Regional Planning and served as president of the Graduate Student Government. Prior to Clemson, Stuart earned his BA degree in Economics from Denison University, where he completed a summer internship program with the San Diego Padres, assisting a development team in planning for a $4-billion-dollar infill urban mixed-use project revolving around a new baseball stadium - what is now PetCo Park.

Stuart serves on the local District Council Leadership Board for The Urban Land Institute. He has been actively involved in leadership roles with ULI since Clemson and he has completed the South Carolina Sustainable Leadership program. In addition to his industry activities, Stuart enjoys coaching high school lacrosse, volunteer activities, golf, bird hunting and working in the yard. Stuart lives in Greenville, SC with his wife, Mary Katherine, son, MacReynolds and their newest addition, Wallace.

Jeff Day

Jeff is primarily focused on identifying and securing medical and dental investment sale opportunities for the firm, as well as analyzing market trends and generating development project assignments.

Before joining the Pintail team, Jeff managed corporate telecom accounts and network solutions for AT&T in Silicon Valley. He placed top of his class after completing a rigorous business leadership development program in Atlanta and was placed by AT&T in the startup hub of California. Jeff also spent several years as a catastrophe claims specialist who generated new business for local construction companies around the United States. He developed over 1.5 million in new business, gained an intimate understanding of project management, and accrued valuable insurance policy expertise.

Jeff relocated to the Upstate in 2001 from west Texas and now calls Greenville his home. A member of the men’s soccer team, Jeff graduated from Baylor University with a Bachelor of Business Administration degree in Marketing. He volunteers with the local humane society, is a United Way Loaned Executive, and has been a member of First Baptist Greenville for over a decade. In his free time, Jeff loves fly-fishing, plays in several community sports leagues, and has recently started carpentry work as a new hobby.

Lakin Parr

Lakin Parr centers his energies on commercial leasing and sales activities. Lakin is focused on identifying strategic redevelopment opportunities, handling third party leasing and sales transactions for clients and sourcing investment sale assets for the firm.

Prior to joining Pintail Capital Partners, Lakin worked as a commercial broker with a nationally recognized firm for over two and a half years. During this time period, Lakin developed extensive market knowledge throughout the Upstate.
 
Lakin is a Greenville, SC native who graduated from High Point University with a degree in Business Administration. Joining the ranks of his fellow Pintail team member, Ross Kester, Lakin is an Eagle Scout. He is an avid motocross rider, mountain biker, runner and enjoys water sports. Lakin was recently married to his college sweetheart.

Alex Phillips

Alex Phillips leads the firm’s market research initiatives. Alex is primarily focused on identifying strategic investment opportunities on a local and national scale, as well as tenant representation, site selection, and identifying new development opportunities.

Prior to Pintail Capital Partners, Alex worked at NAI Earle Furman directly with Ross and Tyson to help further their brokerage and medical investment opportunities.

Originally from Kingsport, Tennessee, Alex has called Greenville home for the past 15 years. Alex graduated in 2014 from Clemson University with a degree in financial management; where he served as President of his fraternity. Alex is an avid sports fan and enjoys playing basketball, being on the water, and anything else that will get him outdoors. Alex also enjoys coaching a local Church League basketball team. He is an active Meals on Wheels volunteer and a member of United Way Young Professionals.

Krissy Simmons

Krissy supports the brokerage, development, and investment sales divisions of the company through marketing initiatives, collateral material design, and administrative support. Krissy is also responsible for coordinating Pintail’s business development events and enhancing brand awareness.

Krissy brings extensive marketing and business development experience to Pintail. Prior to joining the company, Krissy and her husband owned and operated a CrossFit gym in the Upstate of South Carolina. In 2015, she led the Girl Scouts of South Carolina in redesigning and migrating their 100+ page website, as well as rebranding their marketing collateral to support retention and growth. Most recently, Krissy supported the sales team for a regional healthcare company; developing marketing materials which resulted in significant revenue growth during her tenure.

A native of Greenville, South Carolina, Krissy is a member of CREW Upstate. She is also actively involved with Meals on Wheels and serves on the Sweetheart Charity Ball Sponsorship Committee. An avid exercise enthusiast, she also enjoys spending time relaxing at Lake Summit with her husband and their two dogs.
